Beselare is a small, quiet village like so many other small quiet villages in Flanders Fields… if it wasn't for its reputation. Beselare has always been associated with its witches. Where does that come from? No witches were burnt here, but research in the archives in Bruges brought to light that there once was a witch trial.
One can easily image that this must have been the case in so many other places in Europe at that specific time in history.
So why this wide-spread reputation? Is it because people were more superstitious here?
This we do not know for a fact. One thing we know for sure is, that already very early, local authors gathered these legends and stories and wrote them down.
